Many laptops have a TRRS connector these days, a single 1/8" plug that handles all analog sound connectors. I thought that if I didn't want mic functions I could just plug in a TRS and get the sound on both channels, but that doesn't work.Using this adapter, I do get stereo sound output on the speaker adapter. So you need an adapter like this if you want dual channel sound.
