First: Since Snowden's really shocking revelations—& since my ex-spouse hired a hacker to access (and even, for some things delete) very important stuff [yes, he did!—so, as an aside: please, watch out for sociopaths, who do exist and can be very normal-seeming, charming, & very skilled at feigned compassion]— so, anyhow, I've thoroughly locked down and encrypted everything to the fullest extent possible on my devices and computer, I think. So, privacy's a HUGE deal to this reviewer.A while back, I happened upon this. When I decided to order it, I was pretty much convinced I was just giving away some money—that I'd never receive something that actually does what this listing promises. But, it was relatively inexpensive, so I bought both the model that just plugs in, and the one that plugs in but still allows you to stick in your headphones and use them. . . . . . .You know, *just in case* either actually worked.I was shocked that both DID work perfectly on the iPad I used back then (one that still had a traditional headphone jack) and on my iPhone 8 plus (or maybe I was using the 6-plus back then?).And, wow! That's really awesome! You know, we all can easily stick a small piece of tape over the camera things, but I'd always worried about unauthorized use of my devices' microphones. I was even ready to get my microphone permanently disconnected on my ipad—but as such a drastic step would make my mobile *phone* useless for every communication purpose except texting and email, there'd still be that issue. But then, voilà—such a better solution! After telling a "computer/internet-security-expert" friend (the person who'd helped me batten down the hatches after the hacking mentioned above) about these, he bought a couple, himself. A few days later, he thanked me, saying he'd tried to override the microphone-muting that this thing provides, but couldn't. "Great! The real deal." His words.BTW, I'm unsure if he tried these on Android devices or (as I did) on Apple stuff, so I can really only say that they work on that iPhone and iPad I mentioned—and I just realized I've, for some reason, not tried one of these on my MacBook. But, really, I can't imagine why they'd work on Apple mobile things but not on a computer or an Android device, too. That just wouldn't make sense, it seems. The only problem is that, with my newer ipad (without headphone jack, for some unfathomable-to-me reason), I can't just plug this in, of course. So, I suppose I can find the headphone/lightning strike-port adaptors I bought and I see if this item works using one of those. I imagine it would.--Edit (April 2021): I DID get around to trying that, and, yes, this does work as intended using an adapter for devices without headphone jacks. BUT, you've probably noticed this good company has since come out with a model that now simply plugs directly into the charging port. So, first check out that one. I'll review those newer ones on their amazon pages.Okay. Sorry about the verbose review—I'm just enthusiastic about this product (plus, all the reviews I get around to writing, turn out pretty long). To sum up, I do recommend this to you if you have a device that still has a traditional headphone jack. And if you don't have a headphone jack on your device, just use an adapter. It WORKS! Yay!!Edit (April 2021): And if you're in a no-headphone-jack situation, again, check out the newer model for that.It is way too much just for this simplistic piece of technology. 25 dollars is too over pricedSECURITY AND PRIVACY....SO MUCH NEEDED IN TODAYS WORLDTHANK YOU GUYS AND KEEP US SAFEVINNIE RI believe this thing really works. When I make phone calls I HAVE to remember to pull it out of the phone or neither party can hear each other. I ended up not liking how it dangled about all the time, so I purchased the original, which I do like.I tested this by trying to record a voice message using voice recorder on the S8 Plus. Everything recorded up to when I plugged in the lock. I guess that's as good a test as any. It's small enough that I can fit it anywhere. On the other hand, it's small enough to easily lose. I plan to find a way to secure it to the zipper in my purse or backpack.Seems to work... ? I like that I can still use my headphones when it's plugged in. I'm not paranoid, but do like to block my usb & audio functions when I travel & have to access unfamiliar networks, charging ports etc.I attend meetings by phone, and listen only for now. I forgot to mute my phone a few times, and the results were embarrassing. With this little gem plugged in to my phone, I no longer have to worry about my phone unmuting itself and the people on the other end hearing me go to the bathroom, etc. These things are important.I don’t understand why the reviews are talking about thickness but you can’t beat the Mic Lock as the first name in blocking mic input on computers with a 3-ring all in one plug.No clue about thickness or sheerness but #1 in the hood at mic blocking, G.Does not work as described. If you call someone with this plugged in the other person can’t hear you. Blocks out all audio so I guess it’s best to use it as a regular mic block, which isn’t what it’s for. It worked with my android devices (Samsung a11) and my iPad (5th generation) but not my iPhone X. Very displeased.Gerät funktioniert bei / works with Android-4-Smartphone. Funktioniert NICHT mit / does NOT work with Dell Latitude notebook. Internes Mikrophon wird nicht unterbrochen. Internal microphone still recording sound.Irreführende Produktbeschreibung / misleading product description. BewareReally works well , so far
